The CX-5 has been a big success for Mazda, a company that so often battles to get the attention of customers more prepared to shop other manufacturers. The CX-5s combination of excellent looks, nice function content, adequate area and carlike generating characteristics has obviously resonated with folks looking for a lightweight cross-over SUV. If there was one area of possible enhancement, it was under the bonnet.

The 2014 Mazda CX-5 details that issue. Last seasons 2.0-liter "Skyactiv" four-cylinder that was strong in gas mileage but poor in energy now lives on only in the platform sport design. The Traveling and Huge Traveling cuts now come with a bigger edition of that motor, which displaces 2.5 liters and places out 184 horse power and 185 pound-feet of twisting. The Technology program available on both Traveling and Huge Traveling designs tacks on the Intelligent Town Braking procedure Assistance System (see Protection section), automated and flexible bi-xenon front lights, an auto-dimming reflection, satellite tv stereo and a TomTom-powered routing program. The latter two items are available as stand-alone choices. The Traveling edition of this program incorporates automated wipers, while the Huge Traveling edition gets keyless ignition/entry.

The 2014 Mazda CX-5 sport comes with the same motor as last year: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder which makes 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of twisting. Buyers are provided the option of front- or all-wheel generate. However, the 2.0-liter alone comes conventional with a six-speed stick shift. A six-speed automated is optionally available.
